Springing into Order with “Meg-Sense” Tune Ups

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

Who has the spring-cleaning bug? Wait, did the desire to clean everything in sight skip your house too? While I enjoy celebrating spring, it does NOT suddenly inspire me to scrub the oven. Instead, Spring has me embracing my inner Tigger and bouncing all over the place, so please excuse me for having a few integrated topics this week. I am having fun doing little things. I find myself adding splashes of color and clearing things out here and there. I am overwhelmed by the idea of cleaning my entire home, but I am excited about taking some baby steps to help things feel fresh. Maybe you are feeling this way too???

I’m writing from a simply perfect Crepe shop. French music is playing, and I am eating a butter crepe. I have snuck away with Noella to buy a double stroller (off Craigslist) and write my article. Noella is singing away. She probably wants some of this butter Crepe but cannot tell me. Her loss. She is so stinking cute. Life feels good in this moment, which is a rejuvenating break from my daily chaos.

Actually, juxtaposing this Crepe shop with the coffee shop I tried first is the perfect case study of environment. The coffee shop, I started in, had scattered energy. None of the seats felt safe as the backs were exposed. Even the booths along the wall were awkwardly raised. Almost everything was black, and the place did not have a power outlet in sight. The wait staff were on edge. I wonder if they knew their environment had left them totally exposed. The coffee bar where they worked was in the center of the shop with no walls to provide a backrest. Needless to say, I got my drink to-go.

In contrast to the coffee shop, is this quaint yellow and blue crepe space. Solid friendly walls hug just right. Power outlets abound and the Wi-Fi is fast. The bright windows are highlighted with plants. A cozy electric fireplace flickers and festive tablecloths add vivid color. It is beautiful and comfortable. I am refreshed by this environment. There is time and happiness in this spot. My goal is to help create more places that fulfill their purpose in the way the crepe shop exemplifies.

Spring has some seriously powerful collective energy, especially this year. We just completed the supermoon trifecta of 2019, where the first three full moons of the year were all super! The pull of these supermoons causes dramatic oceanic tides. Also, Marie Kondo has created a wave of spring-like tidying energy with her Netflix special. I say, surfs up! Let’s ride the waves and freshen our spaces together!

I want to visit for a minute about these articles and how they can be integrated into your home. My hope is to provide something like a weekly organizational buffet for you. Then, you can help yourself to the tips/foods you are excited about, and you can go ahead and leave behind the savory Jell-O salad. After reading my articles, you are welcome to implement/eat any of your chosen menu offerings.

Noella started solid foods this week, so maybe that's where the buffet analogy comes from?

My friends have helped me coin the term, “Meg-Sense” as a name for my organizing style. It is a method focusing on creating efficient and beautiful spaces one bite at a time. My “Meg-Sense” approach combines everything I am learning. I take from the greater organizational and general life buffet. I study the Marie Kondo method, the golden ratio, decorating, design, and Feng Shui. My writing is one way to pay my studies forward to my community. I get a kick out of helping people re-purpose and recycle items. I hope to blend the everyday practicalities of being human with my “Meg-Sense” style. I embrace doing little things daily, because EVEN FOR ME organizing is a part-time job supporting my life priorities.

I don’t want to end this article without offering a practical place to start this spring.

Start with your sleep areas. Sleep is the key to so many things. Reclaim your inner Tigger and re-fresh your bed! It can be as simple as washing your bedding and making your bed. Take things a step farther and clean out your side tables too. Try to limit any technology in the bedroom. Keep lights low and in the red/warm spectrum. Blackout curtains, sound machines, humidifiers, and air filters can all be used if they feel good to you. When possible, avoid storing anything other than linens, books you are reading, and small personal items near the bed. The optimal location for beds is diagonal from the door, so you can see the door. A solid wall behind the bed feels safest. Solid wood frames with attached headboards are ideal. Avoid hanging things above your head as subconsciously this can cause anxiety. You can even wash pillows and stuffed animals. Above all, choose bedding that feels good to you. It is amazing the difference a fresh bed can make in the bounce of your life!!!
